Come along for this stunning 7.3-mile trek up to Parker Mesa Overlook with Professor Nicholas Shapiro! Initially winding us through Topanga State Park's lush canyons, this trail lends itself to breathtaking panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains and Pacific ocean. The first half of the hike is met with greenery and ample shade, preparing us for the second half, where we will reach the top of the peak overlooking Santa Monica Bay. This hike boasts an incredible 1300 ft in elevation gain and incredible views to show for it!
Joining this hike with us will be Professor Nicholas Shapiro from UCLA's Institute for Society and Genetics. If you've taken any Society and Genetics courses, you might recognize him from SocGen 105a or SocGen 5 and learned from him about topics ranging from feminist critiques on objectivity to the impact of doubt-mongering on public opinions about cigarettes and climate change. If you haven't taken his classes, you'll still want to come along to learn about his many forms of research on topics such as environmental health conditions within carceral institutions. You won't want to miss this chance to meet him!
